| About the course | This first in a series of 3 summer herbal classes in the wild flower meadows and forests of Homer will explore the the exceptional nutritional and therapeutic value of wild edibles and medicines at your doorstep. The retreat is led by Nancy Lee-Evans, director of the Anam Cara Program and apprentice and co-instructor with master Alaskan herbalist Janice Schofield for 15 years. The scope of the three classes will produce a basic home pharmacy and prepared remedies made from local Alaskan plants. This first class will focus on the plants of early summer when edibles and tonic herbs are prime. Consentrating on identification of 12 plants, students will learn their herbal properties and create tinctures, remedy formulas and salves useful in an herbal remedy kit. Students will experience the value of cleansing and revitalizing with nettles and dandelion tonics as an annual health practice. We will incorporate wild edibles in preparing our shared lunches and optional Saturday dinner. Throughout the weekend we will work in respect and harmony with the plant's spirits and open the doorways to commnication with the plants. Plant communication is a learnable skill that brings the entire landscape alive and will change your relationship with nature forever. This class lays the foundation for that relationship to be deepened in future classes. The AnamCara headquarters has tent and camper parking space for those coming from out of town. Bring foods to share with our foraged lunch and dinner. A supply list and directions will be provided upon registration. Be sure to provide a full name, address and email. |
