About the course

The third chakra governs the sense of one's self in the world.  It includes our place in family, tribe, community and the cosmos.  Through the third chakra, we understand ourselves as mother, sister, hunter, carpenter, priest or assembly person.  Our place in our world carries with it status and station, expectations of responsibilities, greater or lesser power.  Anodea Judith asserts that the true calling of third chakra is the power of transformation. To restructure the way we think about power and to channel and contain power within our being is the challenge of the third chakra.

Developmentally we follow the mother child relationship through the emerging identity of the child, sharing our personal experiences as reflections. Contrasting one's often separate and alienated place in western culture we consider the interdependence of Celtic cultures with tribal members, plants, animals and the land on which they live. In particular we'll look at rights of passage, where fear is faced, strength, heart and courage tested, leading to that greatest of all lessons: self-knowledge.

The elements of Nature are formidable, intelligent and a profound adversary for finding the measure of one's metal.   Only by working with nature respectfully could one succeed and thereby gain the assistance of the elements in accomplishing one's task.  The intelligent universe is a collaborator in life. Celtic mystic Frank MacEowen explains, "Sacred knowing connects us with a living earth and a friendly universe that is aware of us being aware of it."

We will continue to develop the ACP core practices of spiritual practice, meditation, guided visualizations, movement and community building through shared personal inquiry and ceremony. The ceremony for this class uses the Celtic lorica to claim ones personal interdependence with the forces of nature.
